As we light the candle of joy this third week of Advent, we’re reminded that true joy doesn’t come from our circumstances or accomplishments—it comes from abiding in Christ. Just as a branch draws life and nourishment from the vine, we find our strength, peace, and purpose in staying connected to Jesus.

The fruit we bear—acts of love, generosity, and compassion—isn’t something we can produce on our own. It flows naturally from a life rooted in Christ. And as we bear fruit, we experience joy: the joy of seeing God’s love at work in us and through us. This Advent season is an opportunity to examine our lives. Are we striving to produce fruit on our own, or are we abiding in the true vine? Are we staying connected to Christ through prayer, Scripture, and worship?

When we abide in Christ, His joy becomes our joy. And that joy spills over into the lives of others, bringing hope and light to a world in need. As we prepare for the coming of Christ, let’s remember: apart from Him, we can do nothing. But in Him, we can bear fruit that glorifies God and brings joy to the world.
