Rerecorded Sermon for Sunday 9-22-2024

Sep 23, 2024

Imagine being in a room filled with people, and someone makes an unfair comment. You feel that urge to speak up, but the fear of rocking the boat holds you back. We all face moments that challenge our courage when standing up for what is right. Especially if there are consequences!

The Bible tells the story of two Hebrew midwives who encounter a similar but much more frightening dilemma living under the oppressive rule of Pharaoh. When Shiphrah and Puah are commanded to kill newborn boys, they find themselves at a crossroads between fear and faith. “What if we defy the king?” they thought. What is God calling us to do?

Like Shiphrah and Puah, we often feel powerless against the forces that seek to silence us or lead us astray. Yet, God calls each of us to stand for what is right, to be instruments of His purpose in a world that often feels chaotic. While we may not be midwives, we all have opportunities to act with integrity and courage. After all, if life was easy, it would not be any fun.

As we gather today, let us reflect on what it means to be faithful and fearless, trusting that God equips us to stand against injustice. Your moment of courage could be just around the corner – will you answer the call?
