On the evening of the first Easter, two disciples were walking to the village of Emmaus, burdened by confusion and grief over Jesus’ crucifixion. They had hoped He would redeem Israel, but His death seemed like the end of their dreams. Even reports of an empty tomb left them uncertain, not hopeful. As they walked, a stranger joined them—it was Jesus, though they didn’t recognize Him.

Jesus listened to their struggles and explained how the Scriptures had foretold the Messiah’s suffering and resurrection. Later, as He broke bread with them, their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. This story reminds us that Jesus walks with us, even when we don’t realize it.

In our moments of doubt, confusion, or despair, He listens, teaches, and reveals His presence in powerful ways. The resurrection wasn’t just a victory over death—it was the fulfillment of God’s promises and the beginning of new life for all who believe.

The walk to Emmaus challenges us to seek Jesus in our everyday lives, to open our hearts to His Word, and to recognize His presence in both ordinary and extraordinary moments. This week, consider: Where might Jesus be walking with you? How can you recognize His presence and share the hope of the resurrection with others?
