In His sermon on the Plain, Jesus tells the story of two builders to show us the importance of living out His teachings. He describes one builder who digs deep and lays a foundation on solid rock. When floodwaters rise, the house remains standing. Another builder, however, skips the foundation entirely, and when the storms come, the house collapses with a great crash, leaving nothing behind.
In our lives, it’s easy to build on shaky ground—trusting in temporary success, wealth, or comfort. But these things can’t weather life’s storms. Only a life built on Jesus’ teachings—on love, mercy, forgiveness, and obedience—can endure through trials.
This week, let’s ask ourselves: What is the foundation of my life? Am I truly living out Jesus’ words, or am I just hearing them? Building on the rock requires effort, but the results are worth it. Jesus invites us to dig deep, to trust Him, and to live in a way that reflects His love and truth, even when it’s challenging.
May we strive to be doers of His Word, building our lives on the firm foundation that no storm can shake.
