Advent 2024 - Day 9
Day 9: Monday, December 9, 2024
Primary Scripture: Luke 3:2
Supporting Scriptures: Jeremiah 1:4-10; Ezekiel 2:1-5
My wife often needs to remind me from time to time that I have unfinished tasks I promised to complete. Advent serves as a similar reminder of the call that God has placed on every believer. Just as John was given a specific mission to prepare the way for Jesus, we too are called to serve God in unique ways. In Jeremiah 1:4-10, Jeremiah initially protests that he is too young and unqualified, but God reassures him: “Do not be afraid…for I am with you.” Similarly, Ezekiel is called to proclaim God’s message to a rebellious people, even though they may not listen.
God’s calling often leads us into challenging places, but He equips us for the task. Like John, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, we are not called because we are perfect or capable in our own strength. We are called because of God’s grace and His desire to work through us.
Are you listening for God’s call in your life? Perhaps He is calling you to share His love with a neighbor, serve in your church, or reach out to someone in need. As we prepare for Christmas, let us quiet our hearts and ask God to reveal how He wants to use us to prepare the way for His kingdom.
Let's Pray:
Lord, thank You for calling each of us to serve You. Help us to hear Your voice and to respond with courage and obedience. Remind us that You are with us, equipping us for the work You have prepared for us. Use us, Lord, to bring Your love and truth to the world. Amen.
