Advent 2024 - Day 4
Day 4: Wednesday, December 4, 2024
Primary Scripture: Luke 21:28
Associated Scriptures: Romans 8:18-25; Colossians 3:1-4
When I moved to East Texas I was not anticipating any snowstorms - and that was by design. I had plenty of cold winters in the mountains of Western North Carolina. However, one does not need to live in the cold to appreciate the transformation from winter to spring. It's a powerful metaphor for renewal and hope (and a warning that the heat of summer is coming). In Luke 21:28, Jesus invites us to lift our heads because our redemption is drawing near. This call to look up encourages us to focus on the hope that lies ahead, rather than the struggles of the present. It’s a reminder that, despite our circumstances, God’s promises remain steadfast and true.
Romans 8:18-25 speaks to the groaning of creation, longing for the day when all things will be made new. This passage emphasizes that our present sufferings are insignificant compared to the glory to be revealed. Likewise, in Colossians 3:1-4, Paul urges us to set our minds on things above, where Christ is seated. Together, these scriptures encourage us to cultivate a hopeful outlook, anticipating the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Growing up in the south we would call this having a "sweet disposition."
As we await our redemption, and "disposed" to knowing it will one day come, let us embody that hope in our daily lives. Let's reflect on the joy and peace that comes from knowing Christ.
Let's Pray:
Lord, help us to lift our heads and focus on the hope of our redemption. May we find strength in our struggles and reflect Your joy to those around us as we await Your glorious return.
Amen.
