Advent 2024 - Day 2
Day 2: Monday, December 2, 2024
Primary Scripture: Luke 21:26
Associated Scriptures: Revelation 6:12-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10
Many years ago I lived in California and I experienced my first earthquake. It was unexpected, unfamiliar, very jolting, and frightening. In moments of deep uncertainty, when the ground seems to shift beneath our feet, we often feel fear creeping in.
In Luke 21:26, Jesus warns that fear and foreboding will grip many as they witness the unfolding of events in the world. This vivid imagery reflects the reality of our times, where anxiety can easily take hold. Yet, amid this turmoil, we are called to stand firm in our faith, transforming fear into hope.
If we look to the words of Christ in Revelation 6:12-17 it depicts a time of great upheaval, illustrating the power of God amidst chaos. In contrast, 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 reassures us that justice will prevail, and those who have faced trials for their faith will be rewarded. Together, these scriptures remind us that while many may succumb to fear, we can find strength in God’s promises. In my case, during the earthquake - fear was justified but the promise of my salvation never changed!
As we navigate our lives today, let us focus on the assurance of His return, allowing it to transform our fear into faithful anticipation. I will also throw in the word Hope! Because that is what we are leaning into during these times of anticipation!
Let's Pray:
Lord, in a world filled with uncertainty, grant us the strength to stand firm in our faith. Help us to find comfort in Your promises and to live in hopeful anticipation of Your return. Amen.
